Uninstalling and Reinstalling AccountEdge

Preserving Company File
Before uninstalling AccountEdge, make sure your company data file is in a safe location that will not be affected by the uninstallation process. There is one folder of particular concern which will have content deleted from it.
Finding Your Company Files:
- In your AccountEdge program, select the "Accounts" module.
- In the Accounts module click the "Company Data Auditor" button.
- At the top of the Company Data Auditor window that opens, your File Name will be listed. Make note of it.

Slightly below that the File Location will be listed:
- Click the hyperlink/file pathway that is underlined.
- Move your Company file and any other .ZIP backup files you wish to keep to a safe temporary location such as on your desktop.
Move Your Files to a Safe Place:
On Macintosh:
- Click anywhere on your desktop so at the top left of your screen next to the Apple icon it says "Finder."
- At the top of your screen to the right of where it says "Finder" select the "Go" menu.
- From the Go drop down select "Applications."
- In the finder window that opens to your Applications folder, there should be an AccountEdge[Your Version] folder.
- Check in that folder and all sub-folders within for any .ZIP backup files you wish to keep to a safe and move them to a temporary location such as on your desktop.
On Windows (Windows 7 and Prior)
- At the bottom left of your screen select the Windows Flag Icon.
- In the Start menu that opens, select on the right side: "Computer."
- In the window that opens, select the C: drive.
- In the C: drive there should be an AccountEdge[Your Version] folder.
- Check in that folder and all sub-folders within for any .ZIP backup files you wish to keep to a safe and move them to a temporary location such as on your desktop.
On Windows 8, Windows 10 & Windows 11
- At the bottom left of your screen right click the Windows Flag Icon.
- In the menu that opens select "File Explorer."
- In the "This PC" window that opens, select the C: drive.
- In the C: drive there should be an AccountEdge[Your Version]folder
- Check in that folder and all sub-folders within for any .ZIP backup files you wish to keep to a safe and move them to a temporary location such as on your desktop.
Once you've confirmed that these files are safe you can proceed to uninstall the software.
Uninstalling AccountEdge
Uninstalling AccountEdge on Macintosh (Pro and Network Edition) Legacy
AccountEdge creates a folder in your Applications folder on installation. This is where the program itself is stored. To uninstall AccountEdge we need to delete this folder.
- Click anywhere on your desktop so at the top left of your screen next to the Apple icon it says "Finder."
- At the top of your screen to the right of where it says "Finder" select the "Go" menu.
- From the Go drop down select "Applications."
- In the finder window that opens to your Applications folder, there should be an AccountEdge (your version) folder.
- Drag that folder to the trash or right click it and select "Move to Trash."
- If you are using Network Edition make sure you also uninstall File Connect.
After this, AccountEdge for Mac has been fully uninstalled.
Uninstalling AccountEdge for Mac Subscriptions (Network Edition and Single-User)
AccountEdge creates a folder in your Applications folder on installation. This is where the program itself is stored. To uninstall AccountEdge we need to delete this folder.
- Click anywhere on your desktop so at the top left of your screen next to the Apple icon it says "Finder."
- At the top of your screen to the right of where it says "Finder" select the "Go" menu.
- From the Go drop down select "Applications."
- In the finder window that opens to your Applications folder, there should be an AccountEdge (your version) folder.
- Drag that folder to the trash or right click it and select "Move to Trash."
- If you are using Network Edition make sure you also uninstall File Connect.

To remove the Application Support folder
- Click on 'Finder'
- Go to 'Options > Go > Library'
- Open the Applications Support Folder
- Delete the AccountEdge Pro folder.
- For permanent removal, empty your trash bin on your device.

Remove the AccountEdge Documents folder (This contains your company file)
- Go to 'User > Documents'
- Delete your AccountEdge folder.
- Empty your trash bin to delete the folder permanently.
After this, AccountEdge for Mac has been fully uninstalled.
Uninstalling AccountEdge on Windows Pro on Windows 7 and Prior
- At the bottom left of your screen select the Windows Flag Icon.
- In the Start menu that opens, select on the right side: "Control Panel."
- In the Control Panel window that opens, click on "Programs and Features."
- Under Programs and Features, Click your AccountEdge program once to highlight it.
- Click and confirm to uninstall your AccountEdge program, follow through the uninstall wizard.
This will delete most of the program's assets from the C:\AccountEdge folder; however the folder itself will not be deleted. To prevent conflict when reinstalling we need to rename that folder now.
- At the bottom left of your screen select the Windows Flag Icon.
- In the Start menu that opens, select on the right side: "Computer" ("My Computer" on Windows XP).
- In the window that opens, select the C: drive.
- In the C: drive there should be an AccountEdge[Your Version] folder. Rename this folder to Old AccountEdge[Your Version].
After this, AccountEdge for Windows has been fully uninstalled.
Uninstalling AccountEdge on Windows Pro on Windows 8, Windows 10 & Windows 11
- At the bottom left of your screen right click the Windows Flag Icon.
- In the menu that opens select "Control Panel."
- In the Control Panel window that opens, click on "Programs and Features."
- Under Programs and Features, Click your AccountEdge program once to highlight it.
- Click and confirm to uninstall your AccountEdge program, follow through the uninstall wizard.

Reinstalling AccountEdge
Reinstalling on Macintosh
If you still have your AccountEdge installer you run it and follow the steps in the Install Wizard. If you no longer have or know where your AccountEdge installer is you can either:
- Log in to your AccountEdge account to re-download the installer file by clicking here. You can choose to download your software once logged in.
Once the installer is downloaded you can find it in your downloads folder:
- Click anywhere on your desktop so at the top left of your screen next to the Apple icon it says "Finder."
- At the top of your screen to the right of where it says "Finder" select the "Go" menu.
- From the Go drop down select "Downloads."
- In the finder window that opens to your Downloads folder, there should be an AccountEdge[Your Version].dmg file.
- Double click that .dmg file to launch the Install Wizard and proceed with the installation.
Reinstalling on Windows
If you still have your AccountEdge installer, run it and follow the steps in the Install Wizard. If you no longer have or know where your AccountEdge installer is you can either:
- Log in to your AccountEdge account to re-download the installer file by clicking here. You can choose to download your software once logged in.
Once the installer is downloaded you can find it in your downloads folder:
- Regardless of your browser hold down Control (Ctrl) on your keyboard and press the J key to open your browser downloads window.
- From there you can double click on the AccountEdge_Pro_Win.exe installer file or click run depending on the browser.
- That will launch the Install Wizard follow its instructions to proceed with the installation.
