Can't find file after upgrade: Location of upgraded file is unknown

AccountEdge Pro

Newer versions of AccountEdge store custom forms, reports, etc., and company files, in a folder known as the Support Folder (Custom Forms, etc.). By default, the upgraded company file is placed in this AccountEdge Support folder, but you have the option to place the upgraded file in another folder, which you indicate at the beginning of the upgrade process. The Support folder is located in your Documents folder, but you can locate this folder anywhere on your hard drive.

If at the beginning of the upgrade process, you indicated a specific folder for the upgraded file, you should look there for your file. Before launching AccountEdge, you can verify the location of a file by using a Finder window on your Mac or an Explore window on your Windows machine. Once you've verified the file location, you can launch AccountEdge, and select Browse to navigate to correct folder and open the file.

If you accepted the default values during the upgrade process, you should first look in your Documents folder for the Support folder. The Documents folder is named Documents on your Mac, and is in your home folder (the folder with the house icon). On your Windows machine, the Documents folder is named either My Documents or Documents, depending on the version of Windows you are running. If the Support folder is located there, check its contents for your upgraded company file.

If you are still unable to locate your upgraded company file, the next location to check is the Documents folder directly. The Documents folder is named Documents on your Mac, and is in your home folder (the folder with the house icon). On your Windows machine, the Documents folder is named either My Documents or Documents, depending on the version of Windows you are running. Depending on the options you selected, your file may be in the applications folder. On your Mac, check the AccountEdge folder in the Applications folder, and on Windows check the AccountEdge folder in the C:\ drive.

As a last resort, you can use your machine's search capability to locate the file. Enter .myo in the search terms field of a Mac Finder or Windows Explore window, and a list of AccountEdge company files and their locations will be displayed. You need to determine which is the latest, upgraded file. With this information, select Browse when you launch AccountEdge, to navigate to the correct folder and file.

Can't find file after upgrade

AccountEdge Network Edition

After upgrading your company file, you should be able to see the upgraded company file in the AccountEdge Network Edition Company File Browser. (You open the Company File Browser window by selecting Browse from the AccountEdge Network Edition Welcome window.) If you do not see the upgraded company file in the Company File Browser:

  • Verify you are on the host (server) machine
Your company file must be located on the host (server) machine.
  • Verify the upgraded company file is in the Databases folder
In order for the file to be accessed by AccountEdge Network Edition, it must be located in the Databases folder of the host machine. The Databases folder is located at /Library/Application Support/AccountEdge NE/Databases
  • Verify FileConnect is running
    • Open System Preferences (Click on the little apple in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, and select System Preferences)
    • Click on the AccountEdge icon in the last row
    • You should read FileConnect is running, and the version (year) of FileConnect is indicated. It should be the version (year) you expect to run.
  • Verify you are running the correct version of AccountEdge
Launch AccountEdge Network Edition, and click on the words AccountEdge NE in the upper left-hand corner of screen (to the right of the little apple). Scroll to, and select About. The version (year) indicated in this window should match the version (year) of FileConnect.

Attempting to open old file rather than newly-upgraded file

AccountEdge Pro

After installing your new version of AccountEdge, you use this new version to attempt to open your company file. You will receive a message indicating the company file needs to be upgraded. You'll follow the steps and upgrade the company file. When AccountEdge upgrades a company file, it opens the existing company file, reads all the data from this file, and creates a new file with all the same data. But, this new file will be in the format of the new AccountEdge. The result is two company files: your original (old) company file, and a new company file that you will be using from this point forward.

If after upgrading the company file, you get the message to upgrade the file again, it means you are using the new version of AccountEdge, but you are attempting to open your original (old) company file. This is probably not what you want to do. You should cancel out of the request to repeat the upgrade, and go back to the AccountEdge welcome window. From the AccountEdge welcome window, select Browse for your company file, and navigate to the folder where your upgraded file is located, and open it

If you are not sure where your upgraded company file is located, read through Can't find file after upgrade.

Attempting to open old file rather than newly-upgraded file

AccountEdge Network Edition

If after upgrading the company file and when attempting to open it, you get the message indicating the file needs to be upgraded, it means you are using the new version of AccountEdge Network Edition, but you are attempting to open your original (old) company file. This is probably not what you want to do. You should click OK, and go back to the AccountEdge Network Edition welcome window. You'll need to hide (minimize) AccountEdge Network Edition, find your upgraded company file, and verify it is in the Databases folder on the host machine.

If you are not sure where your upgraded company file is located, you need to first verify you are on the host machine. This is the machine where the company file will be located. Then read through Can't find file after upgrade.

Once you've located the upgraded company file, you'll need to make sure this file is available to AccountEdge Network Edition work stations by placing the file in the Databases folder. The Databases folder is located in /Library/Application Support/AccountEdge NE/Databases/, which is on the hard drive.

Keeps opening old file

Mac: AccountEdge Pro

Problem is: you start AccountEdge, the old AccountEdge and company file open, even though you've installed the new version. The problem may be the method you are using to open AccountEdge and the company file. This sort of problem is typically related to the use of a Dock reference, an alias or opening by double-clicking the company file.

  • Dock Reference
The reference on your dock may be pointing the old version of the software, or an old version of the company file. To correct this situation, remove the reference from the Dock. Open a Finder window, and navigate to the folder of either the AccountEdge application or the folder containing your company file (depending on what the Dock object should reference). Drag either the application or the company file to your Dock. Check you Mac documentation for more details.
  • Alias
If you're using an alias to open the company file or AccountEdge, the alias may be pointing the old version of the software, or an old version of the company file. To correct this situation, remove the alias. Create a new alias to either the AccountEdge application, or to the company file. (Check the Mac help system for instructions about creating an alias.)
  • Double-clicking a company file
It may just be that you are clicking on the old company file, or the new file is referencing the old AccountEdge. To correct this, verify it is the upgraded file, and do a Get Info on the file to verify it is referencing the correct version of AccountEdge in the Open With field. (Check the Mac documentation for information on Get Info, and the Open With variable.)

Keeps opening old file

Windows: AccountEdge Pro

  • Shortcut
If you're using a shortcut to open the company file or AccountEdge, the alias may be pointing the old version of the software, or an old version of the company file. To correct this situation, remove the shortcut. Create a new shortcut to either the AccountEdge application, or to the company file. (Check the Windows help system for instructions about creating a Shortcut.)
  • Double-clicking a company file
It may just be that you are clicking on the old company file, or the new file is referencing the old AccountEdge. To correct this, verify it is the upgraded file, and check its Properties to verify it is referencing the correct AccountEdge. (Check the Windows help documentation to change the file Properties.)

Can't find old file to upgrade

AccountEdge Network Edition

When attempting to upgrade a company file with the upgrader of AccountEdge Network Edition, verify the file is located on the host machine. The location of the old file is not as important as the location of the upgraded company file, which must be in the Databases folder (/Library/Application Support/AccountEdge NE/Databases/).

Company file was moved

AccountEdge Pro

When AccountEdge opens a file, it records the file name and location. This information is used to open the same file when you click on Open in the Open box of the Welcome window. If the file was moved for some reason, the reference in the Open box will no longer work. To correct this, use the Browse button from the Welcome window, to browse for your company file.
